For guests from our neighbouring country to the west, we now also have our exhibition in Dutch translation.

Tours in this language are now also available on request (in English and German anyway).

We are very pleased that the demonstration on Saturday, which we called for among others, was so well received. The PRORA-ZENTRUM also provided two speeches, with Kerstin Kassner (Chair) and Dennis Grundendahl.

Susanna Misgajski has been active in Prora for over 20 years now.
For most of this time, she has managed the fortunes of the association on a full-time basis and since her retirement she has been active behind the scenes as honorary chairwoman.

On the side, however, she also conducts research in fields that only marginally affect Prora.
On January 29 at 7:30 pm, she will be giving a lecture on child and adolescent psychiatry in Schleswig-Holstein during the National Socialist era at the Bürgerhaus Harrislee (Flensburg) near her home.

The organizers are looking forward to welcoming lots of guests.

As announced, we are using the quieter months to make some changes:

For example, we are currently working on the Dutch translation of our exhibition panels.
And speaking of multilingualism: from Easter on, we will also be offering guided tours in English from time to time.

Temporary exhibitions, evening events, tours, multilingualism, library, educational work, flyers, parking situation, opening hours and service — we have made several adjustments over the winter (we hope to the satisfaction of our guests)!

What remains unchanged are our admission prices:
Our exhibition can be visited for €4.50 (concessions: €3.50).

And even in 2024, all guests on Friday will be considered concessionary.

The fact that fewer guests visit the island, and therefore our exhibition, in winter than in summer is like a holiday destination.
Logically, we cannot afford the 56 hours a week that we are open in the high season during the darker months of the year.

Until now, we have been closed at weekends from the beginning of October to the end of April — and despite the economic necessity, we were never really satisfied with that.

After all, when are the locals supposed to come to Prora if they live for and from tourism seven days a week in summer and the sights are closed in winter?

So we are simply changing this and making it possible for people who don’t have time during the week to visit the PRORA-ZENTRUM at least on Saturdays. Instead, our doors will be closed on Mondays (as is customary in the industry).

New opening hours until April: Tuesday to Saturday 10 am — 4 pm!

This is just one of several changes we have planned for the future. More will be gradually introduced on the homepage and our social media.

It’s worth taking a regular look 🙂

Now that 2023, an eventful year in all areas, has come to an end, we are focusing on shaping the near future:

Versatile but not arbitrary; purposeful but not boring; exciting but not consuming — this is how we envision the calendar design over the next 12 months.

To ensure that this wish has a chance of actually coming true, we have set the course over the past few years and have put together an annual program with some highlights and new features.

But more on this in the next few days on our homepage and on our social channels.

For now, we wish everyone a healthy start to a positive year 2024 at all levels.

Next Thursday, November 16, 2023, we will open the exhibition of Hugo Schmölz’s photographs with guided tours through the exhibition.
These tours are included in the admission price and will take place at 10 am, 12 pm and 2 pm.

To mark the Weeks against Anti-Semitism, the PRORA-ZENTRUM will be giving an insight into its many years of research work next Thursday, November 2nd from 6 pm. Staff members Dennis Grunendahl and Stefan Gerber will present case studies of persecuted Jews on the island of Rügen during the National Socialist era.

Admission is free of charge.

Oral history is an important part of our work. It touches our three keywords education, research, and documentation in equal measure.

For several years now, PRORA-ZENTRUM has been part of the Oral History Digital network, where we partly learn from larger as well as more experienced institutions, but also participate in exciting discussions.

Above all, the project is about the sustainable digitization of life history interviews, uniform rules of published collections and practicable access for users.

The website is now online and participants from all over Germany gathered in Berlin for the release.
