Today marks the 70th anniversary of one of the most important events in German history. Although the national holiday has since been superseded, due to the scope of the strikes and uprisings surrounding June 17, 1953, the events are commemorated and remembered throughout the country today.
Incidentally, there are also exciting connections to Prora, as men of the barracked People’s Police stationed here were ordered from the island to Berlin to take action against the riots there.
