We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season and a good start to the year 2023.
We would like to take the turn of the year as an opportunity to introduce you to our learning platform on the Bausoldaten.
Bausoldaten are the conscientious objectors of the GDR, in which there was – in contrast to the FRG – no civilian alternative service, but only service without weapons within the National People’s Army (NVA).
After the introduction of compulsory military service in 1962, the National Defence Council issued an order on September 7, 1964, establishing construction units. The construction soldiers were born.
On our learning platform, you will find interviews with 8 interviewees – in visual and written form.
We will present more in the coming days.
If you have any questions or suggestions, we would be happy to hear from you and are also available for school projects or ideas.
The project was realized in cooperation with the University of Greifswald and is unique in its implementation. The project was funded by the State Center for Political Education in MV and the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the GDR Dictatorship.
